An investigation is underway after a suspect is killed in an officer-involved shooting after officers encountered a man with a gun. It happened late last night near the intersection of Vernon Odom Boulevard and East Avenue. In a press release here to WNIR, police say 2 of their officers were in their cruiser when they heard gunshots nearby. The officers then left the vehicle and a short time later encountered a man w with a gun. Akron police say one of those officers then fired his weapon striking the individual, who was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. His name has not been released. Both of the officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol. The Bureau of Criminal Investigations responded to the scene and will conduct the investigation. No other information has been released at this time, including what led up to the shooting.
