Akron community groups are calling for peace, healing, and an end to violence, and have planned what they call a ‘ceasefire weekend” over the Labor Day holiday. Organization leaders said the weekend of community events and activities is a grassroots approach to tackling violence in the city. at a press conference this week, the leaders said their goal is for a non-violent 72 hours during the Labor Day weekend. some of the activities planned: “Hood Olympics” on Saturday August 30th, as well as block parties and other events over the 3 day period.
