Altercation on bus leads to stabbing

By John Maczko Sep 12, 2025 | 7:55 AM

Akron Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred yesterday afternoon just before 4pm in the 500 block of East Market Street.  The victim was found bleeding on the sidewalk, across the street from Summa Health Akron.  Police say it’s believed the incident began as an altercation between 2 women passengers on a Metro bus.  After both women got off of the bus, the suspect, identified as 34 year old Chavella Dorris, charged toward the victim and stabbed her several times.  She was transported to the hospital with what are being called non life-threatening injuries.  Officers interviewed Dorris at the scene.  A box cutter was later recovered from her purse.  She has been charged with felonious assault and is currently being held at the Summit County Jail.  Any information, call Akron Police at 330-375-2490.
