Food banks and pantries are preparing for a surge in demand if federal food aid is paused this weekend from the government shutdown. SNAP benefits are set to pause on November 1st. Earlier this week, Summit County approved a $250,000 grant to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to assist residents affected by the potential loss of federal SNAP benefits. More than 77,000 Summit County residents in nearly 43,000 households rely on SNAP.
