Akron City Council last night unanimously approved a grant of up to $100,000 for the Akron-Canton Foodbank, money to be used for those on SNAP benefits. More than 50,000 people in the City of Akron rely on those benefits each month. Summit County Council recently approved $250,000 grant to the food bank days before SNAP benefits were withheld November 1st because of the lack of funds dur to the ongoing government shutdown.
