Canton officer killed in crash

The Canton community is mourning the loss of one of their own.  Officer Dave Wolgamott died on his way to work Monday morning.  According to the department, Officer Wolgamott was involved in a crash in the 800 block of Cherry Avenue SE just before 7am.  The cause is still under investigation, though icy roads and multiple accidents were reported in the area at the time.  Wolgamott was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.  he joined the Canton police department in 2006 serving in patrol and the city jail.  Before joining Canton police, Wolgamott worked part-time with Lakemore, Strasburg, and Boliver police departments and graduated from the University of Akron Police Academy in 2002.
