The City of Akron says the water in a portion of the city is safe to drink. Yesterday morning, a water main break on the city’s west side caused discoloration of the water for residents. The city said the color comes from iron particles that get scoured off the water main pipe when flow is reversed or accelerated, trying to feed the break site. In a press release, the city said the 36 inch break occurred on S. Valley and West Market Street. There is no boil advisory in effect, but the city says you can try and clear the line by opening the cold water only for about 5 minutes. if it doesn’t work, try again in an hour.
