Woman sentenced for setting fire

A 33 year old Akron woman was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for setting a fire to an apartment building on South Turkeyfoot Road that killed a resident’s cat.  Courtney Cooney will also be placed on the Ohio Arson Registry and will be required to register with her local county sheriff’s office once a year for the rest of her life, once she is released from prison.  Cooney pleaded guilty yesterday to aggravated arson and animal cruelty charges.  No one was injured in that apartment fire.
