Akron Zoo expansion

By John Maczko Feb 26, 2026 | 7:46 AM

The Akron Zoo is planning its largest expansion in 73 years.  Plans are to add another 16 or so acres to its pride of Africa are that opened back in 2019.  The new area will feature some new animals to the zoo.  New habitats will be built for giraffes, wildebeest, and ostriches.  Visitors will be able to get up close to feed the giraffes in their new habitat.  The expansion will also include a new family ride attraction and an event pavilion.  The $21 million expansion will be on what remains of the old Perkins Woods.
