An investigation continues into a police chase and shooting that occurred over the weekend. It started at an IHOP and ended with a police officer and suspect injured. The incident started in Springfield Township Saturday evening at an IHOP on South Arlington Road for a disturbance. Investigators say a suspect left, got into a semi truck, refused commands and accelerated, injuring an officer. The chase went north on I-77 before being called off. Akron police later located the truck on East Market Street where it struck multiple cruisers and civilian vehicles before crashing near Innovation Way. Two Akron officers and a Summit County Deputy then fired, hitting the suspect once. The suspect was taken to the hospital but is expected to recover. One officer received minor injuries. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is in line with protocol. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is heading the investigation into the shooting. After BCI wraps up its investigation, the case will be reviewed by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office before being submitted to a Summit County grand jury for its evaluation.
