By John Maczko May 8, 2026 | 4:46 AM

A woman driving the wrong way on U.S. 20 in Sandusky County crashed head-on into another vehicle Tuesday night, killing her and seriously injuring the other driver. The State Highway Patrol says Janet Hirt, 68, of Fremont, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the patrol, Hirt was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 20 near Township Road 214 just after 9:30 p.m. when her 2014 Chevrolet Sonic crashed head-on into a 2014 Dodge Dart traveling east. The driver of the Dart, a 32-year-old Fremont man, was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. The crash is still under investigation.
