Teen shot in Akron

By John Maczko May 19, 2026 | 6:53 AM

A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after being shot in the head Friday evening outside a business on Akron’s southeast side, according to police.  Akron police said officers responded around 7:36 p.m. to the parking lot of Vapes R Us in the 1000 block of South Arlington Street after receiving multiple reports of a shooting.  While officers were responding, police learned someone was transporting the victim to a hospital.  Officers later located the vehicle as it arrived at Summa Health Akron, where they found the teenage victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.  The teen was admitted for further treatment, and authorities said his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.  According to a preliminary investigation, three juvenile males were sitting inside a vehicle when multiple suspects approached and opened fire.  Police said the juveniles attempted to flee the area, but their vehicle crashed into a fence. A passerby later transported the injured teen to the hospital after being asked for help.  The shooting remains under investigation.
