The Akron Water Plant that was temporarily shut down Wednesday afternoon after chlorine gas was released is back up and running, city officials said in a news release. A chemical reaction at the plant on Ravenna Road in Portage County’s Franklin Township sent 3 people to hospitals for treatment. No update on their conditions. in the news release, city officials said the drinking water was not contaminated. A shelter in place order withing a half mile radius of the plant was lifted early yesterday.
