University of Akron bike patrol

The University of Akron has revived a bike patrol program, putting campus police officers on mountain bikes to improve visibility and community connection on the University of Akron campus.  New campus police officers are trained for bike patrol detail.  The university spent about $18,000 to purchase 5 mountain bikes, helmets, and other equipment.  The bikes allow officers to respond quickly and navigate areas a patrol car cannot reach.
