Barberton City Schools in fiscal emergency

Barberton City Schools have been placed in a state of fiscal emergency after the state auditor said the district failed to submit a plan to eliminate nearly $40 million of anticipated budget shortfalls over the next 3 years.  With the declaration, the district will come under the oversight of a financial planning and supervision commission.  Within 120 days of its first meeting, that commission, along with the board of education and community, must develop a plan to eliminate the fiscal emergency conditions.
