Man killed in Akron police-involved shooting

By John Maczko Oct 2, 2026 | 7:59 AM

New details are emerging about an officer- involved shooting in Akron on Thursday, that left a 34 year old man dead.  Officials say the fatal shooting happened as police were attempting to arrest the suspect, for vandalizing the home of an off-duty officer earlier this year, as an act of intimidation and revenge.  The union said the story began 2 years ago, when the officer arrested the man in a rape case.  The charge was dropped, but the 34 year old man was angry about the arrest and would later seek revenge against the officer, investigators said.  According to a release, the shooting occurred around 8:30 Thursday morning inside a home in the 500 block of brown Street.  The man, identified as Jonathan Moore of Akron, shot himself, as an Akron Police detective shot him in the chest.  No officers were injured.  Ohio BCI is investigating the incident.
