Akron Public Schools Ends Friday Night Lights for remaining City Series Football Games

By Kim Maxwell Oct 7, 2026 | 2:55 PM

Akron Public Schools have moved the remainder City series football games in weeks 8, 9 and 10 to Saturday mornings after fighting among fans and spectators have erupted over the past few weeks calling games to be called at half time.

The adjusted schedule was released today by the district and calls for three games to be played at 10 am on October 10, 17 and 24. The three venues will be Buchtel’s Tim Flossie stadium, Ellet’s Joseph B Yost stadium and Kenmore Stadium.

Last Friday, Buchtel was beating Firestone 20-0 at Ellet. Fighting and disruptive behavior by spectators inside and outside the stadium and school officials chose to end the game at half time. No coaches or players were involved in the fighting.

Akron cruisers and an ambulance arrived at Ellet’s stadium. One person was arrested as police and security gained control of the situation.

“Chaos” was the word used to describe the situation by Buchtel coach Bryan Williams.

For this Saturday, October 10,

East will play North at Ellet

Ellet will be at Buchtel

Firestone will play Garfield at Kenmore stadium.

All games will kick off at 10 am. For the remainder of the season there will be no 7 pm Friday night games.
