An Akron mother, Sharon Franklin, is seeking justice after her 35 year old son, Jaymeeson Franklin was killed in a hit and run in Akron’s Highland Square neighborhood on September 25.
The driver, 45 year old Monique Martin-Lateef, fled the scene and then struck tow parked cars and a Buick Encore. Martin-Lateef has been charged with four counts of felony counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.
For Franklin, this is the 2nd of 5 children she has had to bury. She wants the city to adhere to their promise of more security and police presence in the area because she has not seen a change.
In the last year, Highland Square has been an on-going topic of safety in the Akron area. A Wooster man was killed by a stray bullet after a night out.
Jaymeeson was described by his mother as a “gentle giant”. His funeral will be held at 10 am tomorrow (Saturday) at The Remedy Church on South High Street in Akron.
