3 officers shot

3 police officers were shot in Lorain yesterday in what law enforcement are calling an ambush. 2 of the officers were life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in serious condition after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. A 3rd officer was transported to Mercy Health with non life-threatening injuries after sustaining a gunshot wound to the hand. During a press conference on Wednesday, Lorain Police Chief Michael Failing said that 2 officers, Phillip Wagner and Peter Gale, bought lunch before parking their patrol vehicles at the dead end of Missouri Avenue to eat together when the shooting occurred. The officers parked around 1:05pm, and the gunman, also parked in the area, fired on them with a high-powered rifle. The 2 officers were found shot inside their vehicle. Police say the suspect had an arsenal of weapons with him, and he was lying in wait and opened fire with multiple rounds at both officers. Another officer, Brent Payne, driving to the scene was also shot. The 28 year old suspect was shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire.
