Ohio governor Mike DeWine vetoed a bill that would have allowed 14 and 15 year olds to work longer hours on school nights. If passed, Senate Bill 50 would have made it legal for them to work until 9pm all year-long, instead of just school breaks and summer. The current law bans 14 and 15 year olds from working past 7pm during the school year. Teenagers over 16 are permitted to work until 9pm on school nights. Supporters of the bill said it would have helped with staffing shortages at businesses.
