By John Maczko May 11, 2026 | 6:30 AM

A teen is in police custody after a shooting in the Summit Mall parking lot on Friday afternoon. According to the Fairlawn Police Department, officers responded to the mall around 3 p.m. after the Summit Emergency Communications Center received several 911 calls.  When they got there, officers found the suspect, a 17-year-old boy, who ran away on foot. After a short chase, officers caught the teen and placed him under arrest.  A preliminary investigation revealed that the teen allegedly fired two gunshots into the air during an altercation with another group of juveniles outside the mall, Fairlawn police said. There were no reported injuries. Officers at the scene also found and recovered several shell casings.
