A captain with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office has been placed on unpaid administrative leave after being charged in Stark County in connection with a domestic violence incident. 44 year old Joshua Bolinger, of Uniontown, faces 4 counts of strangulation and 1 count of domestic violence in Stark County Common Pleas Court. Bolinger filed a motion claiming self-defense. The motion alleges the incident occurred while he and his wife were transporting their daughter home from a mental health hospital, where she is a psychiatric patient. According to the filing, the victim attempted to “jump into traffic rather than return.” It also states that Bolinger acted in self defense as he tried to regain control of his daughter for her own protection while she assaulted him. A final pre-trial hearing is scheduled for May 28.
