Cavs choke job

By John Maczko May 20, 2026 | 7:49 AM

The Cavs choked last night.  That’s really all that needs to be said.  It seems almost impossible for a team in the Eastern Conference Finals to blow a 22 point lead with under 8 minutes left to go in the game, but the Cavs found a way to do it.  The Knicks went on a 44-11 run in the last 8 minutes and overtime to win by 11.  The run by the Knicks started after the Cavs led 93-71, and the Cavs and their head coach did nothing to stop it.  Cavs stopped moving the ball on offense and couldn’t buy a basket.  James Harden got burned several times in a row by Jalen Brunson and no adjustments was made.  Coach Kenny Atkinson didn’t call the timeouts he needed to when the Knicks started their run, to stop the momentum.  It’s ridiculous in a game where the wheels came off completely that the coach finished the game with 2 unused timeouts.  Everything that could go wrong did and now, if they don’t turn it around quickly this series could be over before it really got started.  Let’s see what this team is made of.  Either they forget about what happened and move forward and make this a series or they never recover from that collapse.  Time will tell.
