The Akron Zoo will break ground on its largest expansion to date, on Thursday June 4 at 9am. At the time, Zoo officials will discuss the new giraffe expansion, including the official name. The zoo is planning its largest expansion in 73 years. The new area will feature some new animals to the zoo. New habitats will be built for giraffes, wildebeests, and ostriches. The expansion will also include a new family ride attraction and an event pavilion. The $21 million expansion will be on what remains of the old Perkins Woods.
