I know what you folks are thinking…Potesta has lost his mind!! Not so fast my friends…allow me to drop a very interesting statistic your way. Teams that start 3-1 have made the playoffs 75% of the time since the NFL expanded its postseason format in 2020.
To say this team has overachieved to this point is stating the obvious, but isn’t this the most “Browns thing” the Browns could do? Think about it…the QB 99% of the fan-base hates is in the last year of his horrendous contract and the Browns have two first round picks in the 2027 draft. Another dreadful year and the Browns likely get their next “franchise” QB,,,and what happens?? The Browns jump out to a 3-1 start and Watson looks like he did during his best years with the Houston Texans.
Can the magic continue? Well, they have a last place schedule with plenty of winnable games left…provided the team stays healthy.
The big question is this: IF Watson leads the Browns to the playoffs, does the organization re-sign him to another contract?
