No Energy Drinks at Rootstown Middle School

By Kim Maxwell Oct 16, 2026 | 12:51 PM

In an effort to promote healthy drinks, Rootstown Middle School has banned students from drinking Energy Drinks. Some students are reported to bringing multiple cans and drinking them through out the day. According to Mayo Clinic, up to 400 mg of caffeine seems safe for most adults. Drinking more than one 16 oz energy drink can push the caffeine over this threshold.

Some energy drinks are labeled specifically not for children. Some energy drink brands such as Bang and Reign, have 300 mg in a 16 oz can.

Rootstown Middle School says only water will be available in the classrooms.
