With severe weather season underway and the potential for tornadoes a possibility with severe thunderstorms, Mexico emergency management officials and Mexico Public Schools are clarifying protocols for opening Mexico’s tornado shelter.
When a tornado watch is issued for Audrain County, a school employee will report to the shelter and will open the building if a tornado warning is issued for Audrain County.
The shelter is at Hawthorne Elementary School at 1250 West Curtis in Mexico.
