Activists plan trip to D.C. to rally for Jayland Walker

Tomorrow marks one year from when 25 year old Jayland Walker was shot and killed by Akron Police. Today, a group of local activists are planning a trip to Washington D.C. to rally for Walker. Buses will depart the First Congregational Church parking lot at 355 S. Union Street at noon. The rally in D.C. will take place outside of the Department of Justice tomorrow morning. Participants will be back in Akron tomorrow night by 11pm. Tickets are $50 per person. Walker was shot and killed by 8 officers. In April, a grand jury declined to indict any of the officers. Walker was killed following a police chase in Akron that ended in a parking lot near Firestone Park. Police say they heard gunshots from the vehicle , but he was unarmed when police shot him during the subsequent foot pursuit.
