Here we are almost in August and the Guardians are still unable to get above 500 and stay there. Yes they have 3 injured starting pitchers (Bieber, McKenzie, Quantrill) but their problems run much deeper than that. The entire outfield has been a complete disaster this season. Why Myles Straw continues to be in the everyday lineup is without a good explanation. Why they don’t bring Oscar Gonzalez up from Triple A, where he is hitting the cover off the ball, is mind boggling. They had a playoff team last year, and went out in free agency and whiffed twice. Josh Bell is here for power but hardly seems to have much left. There other signing catcher Mike Zunino was so bad, he is not on the team anymore. This was probably the offseason that the Dolans should have let the front office throw some money at legit players that could help and they didn’t. Now its a wasted season. Even if they squeeze out a playoff spot they will be sent home quickly. It could be an interesting offseason for the Guardians. Hopefully it goes better than this last offseason went.
