Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett leaving at end of year

A major change will be coming to Akron’s police force. Yesterday, Akron Police Chief, Steve Mylett announced he’s retiring at the end of the year. It’s been a difficult year with some calling for his resignation following the Jayland Walker case. Mylett, in a letter said, ” I am proud to end my 35 years in policing in Akron.” He went on to say, “the past year has been very difficult for many, many and the road ahead to regain what was lost will be no easy feat.” A search for a new police chief will begin immediately. The City of Akron has all options on the table for their next police chief. Internal and external candidates will be considered for the position.
