Amazing how much college football has changed in the past few years because of the NIL money and the transfer portal. If kids sit on the bench for a year, even at a great football school, they are bailing out and transferring elsewhere. Alabama coach Nick Saban decided to retire this week, with out any warning that this might be his last season. He just may be the latest in a string of older coaches who doesn’t want to deal with all this new player movement that has been going on. A day after Alabama lost in the CFP semifinals to Michigan, 9 Bama players entered the transfer portal. Their starting center is going to Ohio State next year. Within a couple of hours of the story of Saban retiring, a 5 star wide receiver prospect who committed to Alabama when Saban was still there, backed out of that commitment. Whether we like it or not this is the future of college football. Those like Saban, who aren’t fans of this new direction will get out of coaching. Then in a few years this transfers and money to recruit players will seem normal and not many will even pay much attention to it anymore. Welcome to college football in 2024.
