A Stark County man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his attack on a church last year. 20 year old Aimenn Penny of Alliance , was arrested and charged for attempting to burn down Community Church of Chesterland on Caves Road because of its support for the LGBTQ+ community. According to court documents, on March 25, 2023, Penny made Molotov cocktails and drove to the church. Angered by the church’s plan to host 2 drag events the following weekend, Penny threw the Molotov cocktails at the church, hoping to burn it down. He pleaded guilty to the church arson hate crime and using fire and explosives to commit a felony.
