Akron Mayor Shammas Malik will host a press conference Tuesday at 1030am at the site of the former Word Church and Akron Baptist Temple at 2324 Manchester Road to kick off the demolition starting with 1 of the garages. Akron acting Police Chief Brian Harding and Fire Chief Joseph Natko will be on hand. Mayor Malik said he wants to tear down the Word Church building complex for safety reasons. The building has been vacant for several years and has been a concern for residents nearby. The mayor called the complex one of several blighted building sites across the city that he hopes to have torn down.
