Around the beginning of 2024, you could make an argument that the Cavs had a legit shot to make a run to the Eastern Conference Finals and possibly put up a challenge to get to an NBA Finals. I think that feeling has long since disappeared. The injuries that have piled up just seem too much to overcome, even if they get most of the players that are currently out back before the playoffs start. Evan Mobley has been out for what seems like forever. Max Strus and Dean Wade haven’t really played much the past couple of weeks. Then there is star guard Donovan Mitchell, who is dealing with an injured knee and nasal fracture. No Donovan, no chance for the Cavs. Even if he comes back , he may not be 100%. The crashed out in 5 games to the Knicks in the opening round last year. This year started with hope, but could end up the same way last year did.
