Akron man sentenced to life in prison for fatal shooting

An Akron man convicted last month of fatally shooting a man and then leaving his body in a parking lot was sentenced to life in prison. 34 year old Luther Easter, will not be eligible for parole until he has at least served 28 years. A jury found Easter guilty of aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence, for the murder of 34 year old Dartanian Howard. On September 18th, 2022, Akron police responded to the area of flower Court and North Howard Street, just north of the “Y” Bridge, for a report of a man lying in the street. Investigators discovered Howard, who had been shot several times. DNA recovered from the scene matched 32 year old Laurelin Flanagan. Investigators determined Flanagan lured Howard to the scene where Easter and an unnamed accomplice killed him. On September 12th, 2023, Flanagan pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence and was sentenced to 13 to 18 years in prison.
