A 28 year old Akron woman was killed Monday morning after her vehicle struck a concrete sign and caught on fire. The accident happened around 630am on Ghent Road. Akron police say the woman was driving an SUV southbound on Ghent Road when she failed to negotiate a curve and veered off the roadway and struck a concrete sign in the 300 block of Ghent Road in Bath Township. The SUV caught fire. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say, while the crash remains under investigation, it is not believed that speed or alcohol were contributing factors.
