New deal could prevent hotel from shutting down

A Springfield Township hotel that police and prosecutors consider a nuisance due to more than 1,300 police calls to the property over the past 4 years, could stay open if trustees and a judge agree to a deal calling for a number of changes. Earlier this month, Summit County Prosecutor Eliott Kolkovich field a lawsuit to have the Red Roof Inn on Arlington Road declared a public nuisance and shut down. Police responded to the hotel for a variety of crimes and multiple drug overdoses. Kolkovich said the hotel’s owners have agreed to make several changes, that if enacted, would keep the hotel open. The deal requires guests renting rooms to be 21 years of age. it also requires installing and maintaining video cameras, providing security guards from 10pm to 2am, on Fridays and Saturdays, among other things. According to Springfield Township Police Chief Jack Simone, trustees are expected to pass the agreement at a meeting tomorrow night. if so, a judge would sign an order the next day.
