4 Akron men sentenced for deadly New Year’s Eve shooting

4 Akron men were sentenced Monday for the 2022 New Year’s eve murder of a 35 year old man. 18 year old Cameron Jones of Akron was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Demarcus Hartwell. A Summit County jury found Jones guilty of murder, aggravated robbery, robbery, and felonious assault, all with a firearm specification. Authorities say, Jones and three others were at Demarcus Hartwell’s house on Louisiana Avenue near East Avenue in Akron’s Kenmore neighborhood on New Years Eve of 2022. Jones shot Hartwell multiple times and stole items from Hartwell’s home. The judge sentenced 3 other men in connection with the crime. 20 year old Nino Jennings of Big Falls Avenue in Cuyahoga Falls was given the maximum sentence of 14 to 20 and a half years for aggravated robbery with a firearm specification. 19 year old Layviere Belton of Peerless Avenue in Akron got 14 to 20 and a half years for the same charge and 19 year old Makhi Anderson-clay of Big Falls Avenue in Cuyahoga Falls was given 6 to 9 years in prison for aggravated robbery.
