In Akron today, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik will swear in the city’s new police chief. Brian Harding has been with the department for nearly 30 years. He’s been serving as Akron’s acting chief since former Chief Steve Mylett retired at the end of last year. Harding had laid out his top 3 priorities for the department…..which he says are to build relationships with the people they serve, have officers and the police department be more diverse and better reflect the community and to tackle gun violence and help prevent violent crimes. The ceremony will be held at the Akron Civic Theater at 10am.
