The American Red Cross needs blood and platelet donors. According to a press release, 20 thousand fewer donations were collected last month than what is needed to maintain the Red Cross national blood supply. The travel season along with the severe weather is a contributing factor to the lack of blood donations. The United States is approaching what AAA calls the “100 deadliest days” of summer for auto accidents. Hospitals need lifesaving blood products on hand for all trauma and accident victims who count on transfusions to survive.
