Kent police urge residents to stay off Cuyahoga River

Kent police are asking residents to stay off the Cuyahoga River due to high water and strong currents. On Sunday, the river was high and flowing more than 3 times as fast as normal. According to Kent fire Department, they helped 51 people and 8 dogs on the Cuyahoga River yesterday. This all began with the reports of 11 rafters trapped by the current near Middlebury Road, but rescuers quickly found more trouble. After 3 hours, the Portage County rescue Team and Kent Fire Department rescued 23 people and 6 dogs. And farther downstream 28 people and 2 dogs were also assisted out of the river. The fire department says most people were not wearing life jackets and warn everyone to stay off the river until the water recedes.
