Akron Public School students will now get the day off on Election Day. At a recent meeting, the school board tweaked its schedules providing an off-day fro students. Election Day on Tuesday May 5th, 2026, will now be an all-staff professional development day with no students. Instead, students will be in class on Friday March 27th, 2026. A similar switch will occur the following year. Students are already off for the November General Election. The decision to give students off on Election day centered around safety concerns and prioritizing student safety. Superintendent Mary Outley urged parents to take their children to voting centers as a way to expose them to democracy in action.
