The City of Akron has announced that it will extend hours art the Summit Lake Community Center, 380 W. Crosier Street, for 3 days early next week to serve as a cooling center amid the approach of a heat wave in Northeast Ohio. Summit Lake Community Center will be open from 9am to 9pm Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The city adds that while most other city of Akron Community Centers are closed on Sunday. They will be open during normal business hours on Monday and Tuesday. The heat index is expected to be in the lower 100’s beginning on Sunday and continuing into next week. The city will continue to monitor temperatures and will extend community center hours as necessary. Unless otherwise specified, the centers will return to their normal business hours starting on Wednesday.
